Equine Assisted Activities and therapeutic riding has existed in some way or another for centuries and has gained popularity in the medical community, as an effective form of alternative therapies.
The stride of the horse mimics the human gait and can be used to produce specific physical changes, increase muscle tone, strength, posture and balance. The movement also contributes positively to the cognitive purpose of teaching; task and number sequencing, increase attention span, concentration and improvements in sensory integration.
Emotionally, the benefits of riding can help overcome fears and anxiety which, can increase self-esteem, self-awareness, new friends, both human and animal!
